(KCI) seeks a dynamic and experienced Korean Language Instructor with a passion for the mission of KCI and interest in being a key member of a small but highly dedicated team. KCI is a community-based, nonprofit organization in the heart of San Francisco, established in 1974. In its 45+ years of service, KCI has evolved from its original mission of assisting newly arrived Korean immigrants to realize their full potential in America through English language classes, training, and cultural and social services. KCI’s current vision is a vibrant, engaged community where Korean culture and heritage are explored, celebrated, and preserved for future generations. Our mission is to create spaces for exploring Korean culture and heritage, bridging communities and generations, and collaborating to address Korean American community needs in the Bay Area. The Center offers a year-round Korean language program (King Sejong Institute), senior and youth programs, and cultural and educational programs -- including classes, workshops and events, most notably the annual Bay Area Chuseok [Korean harvest] Festival. Position Description The Full-time Korean Language Instructor is a newly created position at KCI and will play a key role in the Korean Language & Cultural Program at KCI. The instructor will work closely with the Program Director and Language Program Coordinator to ensure the quality of the year-round KLP curriculum to increase the number and the type of language classes offered at KCI. This multifaceted role includes responsibilities in the areas of: Korean language instruction, curriculum development, the teacher management, mentoring, etc. The successful candidate will have the considerable number of years of Korean language instruction experience; fully native in Korean and professionally fluent in English; proficiency in a range of curriculum design, application, management; be a self-starter who demonstrates a flexible and adaptable work style; demonstrated ability to work efficiently on multiple projects, prioritize, and follow through; cultural sensitivity and ability to communicate effectively with multiple generations; and a passion for KCI’s vision and mission. The Korean Language Instructor reports to KCI’s Program Director and is expected to work collaboratively with other staff. Responsibilities are (not limited to) -Teach at least 15 hours per week (5~ 7 classes) -Manage class students’ grades and hold office hours -Hold and prepare agendas for a monthly teachers’ meeting -Host an orientation for new teachers with the program coordinator -Ensure the quality of the program by being part of the analysis of student surveys -Research and develop new curriculum for the language programs based on the students’ feedback and the community needs -Manage and keep tracks of the inventory of the Korean language textbooks & reference materials & program equipment -Plan facilitate the monthly cultural workshop/class -Provide support for other KCI events as needed -Keep tracks of NBMS (KSI Management system) on the class management Job Qualifications -Applicants MUST meet one of the followings =Have a Korean language teacher’s certificate (한국어교원 자격증 소지자) =Have completed Korean language teacher education training course (한국어 교원 양성과정 수료자) =Have a bachelor’s degree or higher in language or language education with at least one year’s experience in Korean language
education (어문 계열 또는 언어 교육 학사 학위 이상 소지자로 한국어 교육 경력 최소 1년 이상인자) -Experience working in Korean language school or teaching adult students (at least 3 years of experience) -Being able to teach in-person and virtual classes -Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience -Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, respond quickly and efficiently, and organize workflow independently -Ability to exercise professional judgment and discretion, and confidentiality with sensitive company information -Culturally sensitive/competent to the Korean and Asian American & Pacific Islander communities -Team-oriented, flexible, positive, and willingness to learn -Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and the web; knowledge of Adobe Suite a plus -Capacity to work-from-home and familiar with running Zoom meetings (currently, most business operations are being done remotely) -Light physical demands: i.e. spending hours listening and talking; working on the computer and phone; driving to appointments
and events; lifting light pieces of equipment and materials; and occasionally working long days and/or evenings -Must show evidence of being fully vaccinated, as there will be some in-person office work prior to full re-opening of the office
